Beloved brands EBONY and JET remain unaffected by the bankruptcy filing of its former publisher, Johnson Publishing Company /dba Fashion Fair Cosmetics (JPC). The media assets of Johnson Publishing Company, including EBONY magazine, EBONY.com, digital magazine JET at jetmag.com and related businesses, were acquired by Black-owned EBONY Media Operations, LLC (EMO) in 2016. "EMO has breathed a new life into the EBONY brand during a tumultuous era in print and digital media for legacy brands like ours," shared CEO Michael Gibson. Next year will be the 75th anniversary of EBONY magazine and the beginning of a 12-month celebration to honor the impact of the brand on the Black community in America and worldwide." Several news outlets, including the Associated Press, erroneously suggested that the bankruptcy of its former publisher, JPC, had an impact on EBONY Magazine, EBONY.com and JETMAG.com.
